In terms of initial investment costs, wet extruders are significantly more expensive than dry extruders. A dry extruder with an hourly capacity of 1 ton costs approximately 150,000-250,000 yuan, primarily due to its simple structure and lack of need for steam and water addition systems. In contrast, a wet extruder with the same capacity costs 300,000-500,000 yuan, requiring an additional 1-2 ton steam generator (50,000-80,000 yuan), a water metering system (30,000-50,000 yuan), and associated piping and control systems. Furthermore, wet extruders require more workshop space, necessitating the provision of installation locations for steam generators and water treatment equipment, increasing workshop renovation costs by 10%-15%. For small enterprises with a monthly output of less than 100 tons, the initial investment advantage of dry extruders is more pronounced; while for large enterprises with a monthly output of more than 500 tons, the economies of scale of wet extruders can cover the initial costs.

The differences in operating costs are reflected in energy consumption, raw material loss, and maintenance. In terms of energy consumption, dry extruders rely on mechanical friction to generate heat, requiring high-power motors (30-40kW per ton of feed per hour), consuming approximately 80-100kWh of electricity per ton of feed. Wet extruders, on the other hand, use steam for auxiliary heating, requiring only 20-30kW of motor power. Although they consume steam (100-150kg per ton of feed), their overall energy cost is 20%-30% lower than that of dry extruders (based on an industrial electricity price of 0.8 yuan/kWh and a steam cost of 200 yuan/ton).

Regarding raw material loss, dry extruders, due to strong friction, are prone to generating dust and burnt material, resulting in a loss rate of approximately 3%-5%. Wet extruders, with gentler mixing and expansion, have a loss rate of only 1%-2%. In terms of maintenance costs, dry extruders experience rapid screw and barrel wear (lifespan approximately 1500 hours), with maintenance costs of approximately 15-20 yuan per ton of feed. Wet extruders have a longer lifespan for worn parts (approximately 3000 hours), but the steam system requires regular cleaning to remove scale,

making their overall maintenance costs comparable to those of dry extruders. Key points for cost control: Small businesses using dry extruders can reduce idling energy consumption by using variable frequency motors; large businesses using wet extruders can equip them with waste heat recovery systems to preheat raw materials using steam condensate, further reducing energy consumption.
