Differences in Operating Principles: Moisture Control Determines Process Path.

Dry fish feed pellet extruders require no additional water during operation, relying solely on the raw material's own moisture (10%-12%), frictional heat, and steam-assisted heating to complete the extrusion process. The material inside the extrusion chamber has low moisture content, resulting in extruded pellets with only 18%-22% moisture. No additional dehydration process is needed; the pellets directly enter the drying stage. Wet extruders, on the other hand, require the addition of 5%-10% moisture to the material, combined with high-temperature, high-pressure extrusion, producing pellets with a moisture content exceeding 30%. These pellets require a dehydration process to be suitable for dry dog food production, making the process more complex and energy-intensive. This difference makes dry dog food production machines significantly more efficient than wet extruders.

Differences in Product Characteristics and Equipment Compatibility. Dry fish feed production equipment produces pellets with moderate porosity and high hardness.

After drying, the moisture content is ≤12%, resulting in strong storage resistance and fully meeting dry dog food standards. The pellets have a slightly crisp texture, suitable for dogs' chewing needs, and are less prone to moisture absorption and spoilage. Wet extruders produce looser, higher-moisture pellets, requiring additional dehydration and drying. This can easily lead to pellet structure damage and nutrient loss, and the yield of dry product is lower than that of dry extruders. In terms of equipment compatibility, dry dog food making machines have hoppers and feeding systems specifically designed for dry materials to prevent material adhesion, while wet extruders require water addition devices and dehydration systems, resulting in a more complex structure.

Energy consumption and maintenance differences: Dry equipment has the advantage.

Dry-type fish feed making machines eliminate the need for water addition and dehydration processes, reducing energy consumption by 15%-20% compared to wet extruders. Dry materials are less likely to adhere to the equipment, making cleaning and maintenance easier; after daily operation, only the extruder die and screw need to be cleaned for any remaining dry material. Wet extruders, due to the high moisture content of the material, easily adhere to the screw and barrel, making cleaning difficult, and the dehydration process requires additional energy, resulting in higher long-term maintenance costs. This characteristic makes dry extruders more suitable for the large-scale production needs of dry dog food.
