Latest company news about How Fish Feed Pellets Differ from Traditional Feed

The core differences in microbial control lie in sterilization effectiveness and feed safety. Traditional feed processing is simple, lacking a dedicated sterilization step. Raw materials (such as soybean meal and fishmeal) are prone to the growth of harmful microorganisms like E. coli, Salmonella, and Aspergillus flavus during storage and transportation. Fish consuming these feeds are susceptible to gastroenteritis, septicemia, and other diseases, potentially leading to mass mortality. During fish feed pelleting, especially with a Twin-Screw fish feed extruder, the high-temperature, high-pressure environment achieves highly efficient sterilization: continuous exposure to 120-160℃ kills over 90% of harmful microorganisms, with Aspergillus flavus kill rate exceeding 95%, and E. coli levels reduced to below safety standards (≤10 CFU/g). Furthermore, pelleted feed has good sealing properties after forming, making it less susceptible to moisture and mold during storage, whereas traditional powdered feed easily absorbs moisture, allowing for microbial re-growth and posing a higher safety risk.

Differences also exist in the removal of anti-nutritional factors and harmful substances. Traditional feed ingredients (such as soybean meal and cottonseed meal) contain anti-nutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitors, urease, and gossypol. These substances inhibit the activity of digestive enzymes in fish, reduce nutrient absorption efficiency, and can even damage the liver and kidneys of fish. During the production process of the Twin Screw Pet Food Extruder, high temperature and high pressure effectively destroy these anti-nutritional factors: the inactivation rate of trypsin inhibitors can reach over 80%, urease activity is significantly reduced, and the content of toxic substances such as gossypol can be controlled within safe ranges. Among these processes, extruders offer the best processing effect. Compared to ordinary pellet mills, they maintain high temperatures for a longer duration, have more stable pressure, and remove anti-nutritional factors more thoroughly. For example, when feeding juvenile fish with extruded pellet feed, the incidence of indigestion and stunted growth caused by anti-nutritional factors is reduced by more than 70% compared to traditional feed.

The Twin Screw Pet Feed Extruder provides additional protection for feed safety. The pelleted feed produced by extruders not only enhances safety by sterilizing at high temperatures and removing anti-nutritional factors, but also avoids feed contamination: after pelleting, the raw materials are isolated from the external environment, reducing the risk of contamination by dust and impurities during transportation and feeding. Simultaneously, the extrusion process reduces the oxidation of oils in the feed, improving freshness and preventing the formation of harmful substances from rancid oils. Furthermore, extruded pelleted feed allows for precise control of raw material ratios, avoiding nutritional imbalances and safety hazards caused by adulteration or improper proportions in traditional feeds, providing double protection for the healthy growth of fish.
